Although the international period hardly represents a ‘break’ for the players, Christian Eriksen believes stepping away from the intense nature of Club duties for a few days left everyone refreshed and raring to get back into Premier League action.
Two weeks on from our last outing at Crystal Palace and with the majority of the lads having jetted off to play for their countries in the intervening time, Chelsea found that out the hard way on Saturday as we seemed reinvigorated from the off, taking the game to our rivals in a fine 3-1 win at Wembley.
Dele, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son scored the goals while Christian created seven chances during the 90 minutes – the most by any player in a single Premier League game this season.
After a hectic spell of matches leading into the recent international action, Christian agreed that the manner of the performance showed that we’re in good shape now that the squad has reconvened in London.
“It’s strange because you go away but you still play games, so it’s not like you have a relaxing time,” he said of the international window. “But luckily a lot of the players only played one game instead of two in a week and I think it’s just about some new scenery to get your head clear and have a good trip with your national team.
Everybody knew how important this game was so it was a good game to be back at it and we feel good.
“It’s good to really restart, get your mentality back and get your focus back to play a game like this (against Chelsea). Everybody knew how important this game was so it was a good game to be back at it and we feel good. Especially after a win like this you always feel confident, always feel very refreshed, but every game is different. It’s about keeping the momentum going and keeping the confidence going and then you’ll be fresh because you feel comfortable in the game.”
On the way the match panned out against the Blues, Christian added: “We’re very pleased, first of all with how we performed in big parts of the game.
“We were really on the front foot, creating chances straight away to do everything that we could and we even had more chances to score a lot more goals. At 3-0 some might say it (the scoreline) was even too little but this shows that we had the chances to score more and we wanted to score more.
“It was a very strong performance against a team that’s been undefeated in the league where they’ve had high praise. We’ve turned that around and we can be very, very pleased.”
