Ben Davies described Moussa Sissoko as an ‘invaluable’ member of the squad – and said the players were delighted to see him back in the France squad.
The midfielder has hit the best form of his Spurs career this season and was rewarded with a recall from ‘Les Bleus’ for matches against Holland and Uruguay. He came off the bench to earn his 54th cap against the Dutch on Friday.
Moussa has particularly impressed as we’ve recorded tough away wins at West Ham, Wolves and Palace and it’s in his contribution in those games that Ben sees his team-mate shine.
“Honestly, he’s been brilliant for us,” said Ben. “It’s the work he does off the ball that goes unrecognised but for us, as a team, it’s invaluable.
“To have a player like Moussa is to have a player who when you are under pressure, you know he’s going to get on the end of things, work and chase everything.
“He’s one of the hardest workers in the team and he deserves all the plaudits he’s getting.
“He’s back in the France squad and that is one of the best squads in the world. We’re all delighted for him.”
It was mentioned to Ben how difficult it must have been for Moussa to miss out on the French squad for the World Cup, having played throughout Euro 2016 and in six qualifiers for Russia. Of course, France went on to lift the trophy, led by skipper Hugo Lloris.
“That must have been so tough to deal with,” added Ben. “In fairness to Moussa, he’s showing what he’s all about. Like I said, he’s a great bloke and someone who is highly valued in the changing room and we’re all buzzing for him at the moment.”
