Paulo Gazzaniga has been rewarded for his impressive performances in goal this season with a first ever call-up to the Argentina national squad.
The 26-year-old, who hails from Mauricio Pochettino’s home town of Murphy, has made five appearances between the sticks for us this season, most recently helping us claim a 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in his Champions League debut on Tuesday night.
Paulo, who made his first appearance for us last November in a 1-0 home win over this weekend’s opponents, Crystal Palace, joins Club team-mates Erik Lamela and Juan Foyth in his country’s squad for back-to-back matches against Mexico during the forthcoming international period.
Attacking midfielder Erik has been recalled to the Argentina set-up having last been involved in October, 2016, while young defender Juan earned his first call-up just last month and was named on the bench in a 4-0 victory over Iraq in Saudi Arabia.
It marks the first time we’ve ever had three players in the senior Argentina national squad at the same time.
