In doing so Hugo, 31, became the first Spurs player to win the World Cup and indeed lift the trophy as captain.
Also skipper here at Spurs, Hugo saw an own goal from Mario Mandzukic, a penalty from Antoine Griezmann and goals from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe clinch the most prestigious trophy in world football.
Hugo celebrates France's opening goal in the final
In an exciting final, Ivan Perisic made it 1-1 before Griezmann's spot-kick and France raced into a 4-1 lead in the second half before Mandzukic blocked Hugo's attempted clearance for the final 4-2 scoreline.
France therefore went one step further than Euro 2016 when Hugo again led the team to the final, only to be beaten by Portugal.
Capped 104 times by France, Hugo joined us in 2012 and has made 254 appearances for us in all competitions.
