Mauricio Pochettino pointed to the character of the team to recover from two huge late blows at Anfield and still come away with a point.

Victor Wanyama’s stunning goal gave us a deserved equaliser on 80 minutes after we’d dominated the second half. Five minutes later, we had the chance to take the lead only for Loris Karius to save Harry Kane’s penalty.

The clock ticked into four minutes’ added time and it looked like all that effort was going to be for nothing as Mo Salah jinked left and right before poking over Hugo Lloris to hand Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

Yet was one final twist. Virgil van Dijk kicked Erik Lamela in the box, a second penalty was awarded and Harry made no mistake this time for 2-2 – and his 100th Premier League goal.

“It was an amazing game and I think we played so well,” said Mauricio. “It was unbelievable in the way we showed such character because when we conceded the second goal it was tough, right at the end of the game, yet we had the belief to keep going until the end.

“We were unlucky to concede a goal in the first action in the first few minutes and it was difficult to react against a team like Liverpool who love to play on the counter-attack. We were fantastic and I congratulate the players.”

Victor struck as clean a strike as you could wish to see, arrowing into the corner from 20 yards to make it 1-1, much to Mauricio’s delight.

“What a goal! It was an amazing goal and that helped us to believe and the team to achieve the result we wanted. It’s good for his confidence and belief. I’m very happy for him.”

Mauricio’s final words were for Harry, who became the first Spur to make it to 100 goals in the Premier League and the second-fastest in PL history (141 games – 138 for us, three for Norwich) behind Alan Shearer (124).

Mauricio added: “He’s a great striker and a great personality and I’m so happy for him."
