83,222 - record attendance

It's a new mark in the Premier League/Club home league game and derby

Mon 12 February 2018, 11:17|Tottenham Hotspur

Our attendance figure of 83,222 against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, set a new record mark on three fronts.

The 83,222 toppled the previous best Premier League record set by us against Manchester United just last month, with 81,978 at Wembley for our fine 2-0 win on 31 January. That was also our Club record for a home league match.

It was just short of the all-time home league record in English football - currently held by Manchester United at 83,260 for a match against Arsenal in the old First Division - coincidently, held at their rivals City's old Maine Road stadium in 1948.

Saturday's attendance took us into second on that all-time list, jumping ahead of the 82,905 figure for Chelsea's match against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the old First Division in 1935.

Before this season, our highest crowd for a home league match was 70,882 against Manchester United at White Hart Lane in September, 1951.

It's what you dream about as a kid and the fans deserve all the credit, they pushed us on.

Meanwhile, 83,222 is a new record for the north London derby.

The previous best figures were for the semi-finals at Wembley in 1991 (77,893) and 1993 (76,263) followed by 70,544 at Highbury in 1934 and 69,821 at White Hart Lane in 1953.

Our record home attendance remains 85,512 against Bayer Leverkusen in last season's Champions League campaign.

That figure of 85,512 is an English club record. Indeed, both of our Champions League group matches against Monaco (85,011) and Bayer Leverkusen set new record figures, toppling the previous best of 84,569 held by Manchester City for an FA Cup tie against Stoke at Maine Road in 1934.

The 85,512 attendance is also the highest by an English club for a home match in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, our attendance of 80,465 against Gent in February, 2017 set a new record mark for the UEFA Europa League, toppling the previous best of 75,180 for Manchester United against Liverpool at Old Trafford in March, 2016.
