We were saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Roy Woolcott who died on 16 December following illness at Paternoster Care Home, Waltham Abbey. He was 72.

Born in Leyton, centre-forward Roy joined us as an amateur in December, 1967, and was upgraded to full professional status in the following February. He was a regular goalscorer in our Reserves but only made one Football League appearance for us - at Ipswich Town in Division One in December, 1969.

Roy joined Gillingham on loan in February, 1972, before transferring to Chelmsford City and subsequently playing for Folkestone.

We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Maureen and son Darren at this sad time.
