Dier: “No time to feel sorry for ourselves”

Mon 03 December 2018, 15:42|Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Dier wants to move on quickly from Sunday’s derby defeat at the Emirates.

The team will have the chance to do just that with games coming thick and fast in December.

We return to action against Southampton in the Premier League at Wembley on Wednesday night (8pm) as our schedule of nine matches this month continues.

As Mauricio Pochettino said before the derby: “If you win or lose, you need to move on because the competition doesn't wait for you.”

“That’s the great thing - we play again on Wednesday,” said Eric. “There is no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to move on now to the next game and try to improve. Wednesday we go again and we need to win, like we do in every game and we’ll try to win, like we do every game.”

The word ‘disappointed’ featured heavily in Eric’s post-match interview.

Things were looking a whole lot brighter at around 2.35pm on Sunday when he levelled the score after Arsenal’s bright start. Harry Kane soon made it 2-1 and a third memorable result of the week was on having toppled Chelsea and Inter.

It wasn’t to be though as the Gunners stormed back to win 4-2.

“We’re disappointed,” said Eric. “This is football. We have to accept it. We’re disappointed with the result, disappointed with the way we performed. Arsenal deserved to win.

“We did really well to turn it around but the second half was very disappointing, too many mistakes and in the end, we weren’t at the level we should have been.

“As a team, we weren’t good enough in the second half. As I said, we just have to move on now. This is football and we’ve been here before. We were in this position after we came here last season and I’m sure we’ll bounce back again and continue to look upwards.”
