There is positive news on those players who have been suffering from injuries over the summer ahead of Saturday’s Premier League curtain-raiser at Newcastle United.

Midfielder Victor Wanyama is progressing well with gym-based rehabilitation for a knee injury, while Erik Lamela has been suffering from a short-term muscle injury but is expected to return soon.

Young centre-back Juan Foyth is progressing well with rehabilitation from a thigh injury, though is likely to remain sidelined for a few weeks.

Fellow defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is in the early stages of rehabilitation for a groin injury while midfielders Harry Winks and Josh Onomah have both started to reintegrate into first team training following their respective injuries.

In addition, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed in his pre-match press conference today (Thursday) that some of the players who returned to full-time training this week following prolonged runs in the World Cup will be able to play a part at the weekend.

Kick-off at St James’ Park is at 12.30pm.
