There was certainly a more open feel to the early stages of the game compared to some at Wembley recently, with Stoke pushing players forward when they had the opportunity. The first sight of goal came to Son on 12 minutes, who drifted in off the left flank, cut inside a couple of half-hearted challenges but his strike was comfortable for Butland. Then nine minutes later, Son worked a yard of space near the byline, his cross flicked off Kurt Zouma and flew into the net off Shawcross as he slid in with Kane.

Chance: Son denied on the counter – 25mins
It was almost 2-0 shortly after. Shaqiri took a Stoke corner and knocked it out to Darren Fletcher some 30 yards from goal, but Son intercepted with his head and then burst forwards. He ignored the support of Eriksen, Kane and Dele Alli and went on his own, but his right-foot shot was saved by the feet of Butland. A few minutes later, Dele was brought down by Wimmer 25 yards out, Eriksen got the free-kick up and over the wall but Butland saved, and he was there again on 31 minutes to deny Mousa Dembele from distance.

Chance: Kane misses golden chance – 37mins
We were very much on top at this stage and really should have doubled our advantage in the 37th minute. Son was again the architect, picking the ball up centrally this time and he slid a lovely ball through for Kane who turned Wimmer and was through on goal. Butland was quickly off his line but Kane looked set to score, only to send his right-foot drive past the post. Little was happening at the other end, Mame Diouf almost diverting a header in to Shaqiri inside the six yard box the closest Stoke came to scoring in the half, and we went in at the break with a slender but deserved lead.

Goal: Spurs 2-0 Stoke City – Heung-Min Son – 53mins
The visitors had their first shot on target five minutes into the half when Shawcross scooped a volley straight at Lloris, but we then hit them with two goals in the space of 91 seconds. It was an excellent second goal which started when Winks cleared his lines with a ball which went straight to Dele on half-way. He then threaded a delightful pass which split the Potters' defence and found Son surging through, the South Korean international taking one touch on the run before squeezing a shot just inside the post.

Goal: Spurs 3-0 Stoke City – Harry Kane – 54mins
It was 3-0 less than two minutes later. Butland hesitated with a clearance allowing Kane to close down and block when he did finally attempt to clear, the keeper just managing to push the loose ball away for a corner. We recycled possession from the set-piece, Eriksen laying off to Ben Davies whose cross was met by Kane, heading down and through Butland’s legs into the net. Stoke then had their best chance of the game on the hour mark when Diouf released Shaqiri in on goal down the right channel, his effort was heading for the corner until Lloris intervened, diving to his left to tip it away, with Eric Dier clearing the rebound for a corner.

Goal: Spurs 4-0 Stoke City – Harry Kane – 65mins
Our dominance in the game swiftly returned, however, as we added a fourth goal five minutes later. Eriksen broke down our right and sent over a cross which Edwards and Son tussled for. The loose ball fell perfectly for Kane to sweep home with a left-footed curler and effectively wrap up the points. Shortly after, Lamela came off the bench for his first home appearance since his injury in October last year, while Crouch also entered the fray to generous applause from our fans.

Goal: Spurs 5-0 Stoke City – Christian Eriksen – 74mins
Having beaten Stoke 4-0 on our last three Premier League meetings, we looked set for a repeat performance once more... until we scored again! It was a superb breakaway, Son leading the charge and he almost had too many options but eventually picked the right one, threading a lovely ball in to Eriksen who beat Butland with a clinical finish.

With the points in the bag, we would have hoped to preserve the clean sheet, but that went in the 80th minute when a corner was whipped in, Lloris came to clear but was beaten to it by Shawcross who headed home. We almost made it 6-1 four minutes later when Son weaved his way into the box off the right flank, the ball falling at the feet of Eriksen whose fierce drive from 12 yards was superbly saved by Butland. But it mattered not, a fine victory was already secured.
