The Spurs team were left frustrated by the betting rules as they all fancied Les to score the 10,000th Premiership goal.
Gus Poyet said: "We would have made a lot of money as we were all really confident Les would score. We really believed that in the dressing room and the odds were huge. Les is on a great run and is getting on the end of everything."
Darren Anderton added: "It couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. Les thoroughly deserves it for all he has given to the game."
Former Spurs boss Gerry Francis went as far as to label Les 'the perfect striker'.
"Quite simply Les is the perfect goalscorer," said Gerry. "People talk about younger players and glamour players, but Les' record speaks for itself.
"I remember when I first came to QPR Les was struggling a bit. He had been on loan to a couple of clubs and was still trying to find his way. But once he did we had four great years together and he was top scorer for three of those years. I think he went on to prove himself at Newcastle as well.
"This is an excellent reward for all the work he has put in."
