WHL memories – Broadchurch star Jim Howick on ‘the colonel’

Mon 24 April 2017, 09:59|Tottenham Hotspur

It’s not just the football that has captivated fans at White Hart Lane – it’s the sights, sounds and smells as well.

That’s certainly the case for Jim Howick, a lifelong Spurs fan and actor who first attended the Lane back in November, 1994.

Famed for ‘Horrible Histories’ and ‘Yonderland’, Jim has most recently been seen on primetime TV in popular ITV series ‘Broadchurch’.

Jim told us: “There used to be this burger van behind the North Stand on the Paxton and the guy who owned it used to call everyone 'colonel'.

"He’d say ‘what d'yer want colonel? Bacon? Cheese? Onions? Look at that!!’ and then, when he served it to you, he'd cry 'handsome, haaaannndddssssoooommeeee’!

“You could hear him from the High Road! Me and my mates would always make a pilgrimage to see the 'colonel' and we do impersonations of him all the time – at family BBQs, even Christmas!

“I'm not sure where he is now but he will always be a legend. That’s what it’s all about for me, the characters that a matchday has always brought us. Here’s to the future! Come on you Spurs!”
