Welcoming Enfield Town Disability Football Team

As part of our continued support for Kick It Out and our Week of Action for Level Playing Field, we are delighted to be welcoming Enfield Town Disability Football Team to Sunday’s Kick It Out game.

Through the Barclays Community Ticket Programme, the team have been awarded tickets to a Premier League match having upheld the spirit of football within their community.

Enfield Town Disability Team, supported by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, provides opportunities for young disabled people living in Enfield to play football.  Each week, over 25 13-20 year olds attend the weekly sessions, which aim to build confidence and aid personal development by providing  a comfortable, inclusive environment for participants to play and most of all, enjoy a game of football with friends.  

Coaches from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation work to deliver sustainable playing opportunities and support the team through the Special Olympics Unified Football initiative which aims to bring mainstream players and those with disabilities together in a competitive environment.

Kay O’Brien, Inclusion Outreach Officer for Enfield Town Disability Football Team, said: “Football is a game loved by lots of different people all over the world. That’s why it’s important to provide opportunities for those with disabilities. By playing football at our weekly sessions, the young people in our team have developed a sense of pride, ownership and empowerment through the game.”

Our work with Enfield Town Disability Football Team is part of our commitment to deliver a range of sport and physical activity programmes for the local community in Enfield, through the Section 106 agreement. The partnership is responsible for overseeing the delivery of Tottenham Hotspur’s £2.3m commitment to community sport and physical activity over 10 years to the area in which it has completed the building of a world-class training centre. Over the past three years, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has delivered over 24,000 hours of sports and health activities in Enfield alone.

Tottenham Hotspur continues to support and work with Level Playing Field, helping to provide fans with disabilities access to watch, play, learn and above all enjoy being a part of our football community.
