Andros Townsend is determined to take the positives from Sunday's performance against Arsenal into Thursday's Europa League Round of 16, second leg at Benfica.
The team piled on the pressure against the Gunners but couldn’t find a deserved equaliser to cancel out Tomas Rosicky’s early strike.
“It was a good performance but when you play your biggest rivals it’s all about results and unfortunately, we got caught in the first minute and couldn’t recover,” said Andros.
“Everyone is disappointed but we can take positives from the game.
“We know it was a good team performance, we worked hard, controlled possession and had more chances. We know ultimately we lost, but we can take the positives to Benfica.
“It’s another big game on Thursday and then back here (against Southampton) on Sunday. There is still a lot to play for. We have to put this behind us and move on.”
Next stop is the iconic Estadio da Luz, home of the Portuguese Primeira League leaders as we try to turn around a 3-1 deficit from the first leg in Lisbon.
“We’ve nothing to lose,” added Andros. “We’re two goals behind from the home leg, so we can go there, have a go and see what happens.”
