Gareth Bale is looking for a repeat of last year’s end-of-season run-in as we bid for a second successive top four Premier League finish.

The Welshman has compared this week’s Champions League exit to last season’s FA Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Portsmouth – after which we won four of our next five games to book our place in Europe’s top club competition for the first time.

Arsenal at home is next up on Wednesday – a repeat of the game that followed our Wembley disappointment a year ago. We were 2-1 winners against our North London rivals on that occasion.

We also face games against Chelsea and Manchester City (as we did last season) and a trip to Anfield to face a resurgent Liverpool amongst our final seven games.

But Gareth knows exactly what we are capable of and insists the lads are full of confidence going into the run-in.

He said: "Last season we came off the back of a disappointing result against Portsmouth. We went out of the cup and in a way that helped us. Now we are out of the Champions League and we can focus on the league and hopefully get the fourth spot.

“We have a hell of a run in. But if we beat the teams above us then it will only be good for us and it will be in our hands.

“We know that Arsenal will be a difficult game next week. It's a derby and one that we really need to win as it’s our game in hand.

"We need to win every game and we will go out there to win every game. We know that we are capable of beating all the other teams. We beat them all last season at some point so there is no reason why we can’t get maximum points.

“We don't fear anyone. We have the players and are capable of scoring goals. We are just going to go out there, show what we can do and hopefully finish in the top four."

Gareth also took the time to reflect on what he feels has been a successful maiden Champions League campaign for the Club.

He added: "It has been amazing for all of the players playing in the competition. We have thrived off it and we have given our all and I don't think that anyone expected us to get as far as we did. The fact that we got this far shows to Europe what we are capable of.

“We came through the group and qualified as winners, we knocked out AC Milan and we were really looking forward to the Real Madrid tie but it went a bit pear-shaped in the end away from home.

"We are massively hungry to get back into the competition next season. It has been a huge battle and it’s been great for everyone involved with the Club. It is time now to concentrate on the league and know that we can achieve fourth again."
