Alan Gilzean is back ‘home’ at the Lane.
One of our striking greats, ‘Gilly’ scored 133 goals for us in 439 appearances in all competitions between 1964-1974, lifting the FA Cup, UEFA Cup and two League Cups along the way.
He left us for South Africa and then Stevenage in 1974 but wasn’t seen at White Hart Lane again until he was introduced as a half-time guest in February, 2013 – fully 39 years on.
Gilly was inducted into our Hall of Fame alongside Mike England in December, 2013, and he plans to visit more regularly now as part of our legends’ matchday team.
So what happened? “I got out of the way!” he told us. “I lived down in Weston-super-Mare and lost interest in football really until a certain Mr Pat Jennings contacted me and invited me back. It just rolled from there.
“It’s great to be back. When I come through the gates it still stirs up wonderful, wonderful memories. It was a pleasure to play here and to be part of this great club.”
