Victor Zapata-Caicedo grabbed a hat-trick as our Under-18s beat West Brom 4-0 in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday.
Zapata-Caicedo struck in the 25th, 85th and then in the 91st minute with Nathan Oduwa hitting the fourth goal on the half-hour.
Academy Manager, John McDermott, reported: "Obviously, it was difficult preparation, just 12 hours after the FA Youth Cup defeat against Bolton.
"I thought West Brom were well-organised and had the intention to come and play but some of our more experienced Under-18 players adapted well. Full credit as well to Lawrence Vigouroux, Dominic Ball and Victor Zapata-Caicedo, who used their experience to help some of the younger players settle.
"Victor scored a fantastic hat-trick. He opened the scoring from a cross from Emmanuel Sonoupe and then Nathan Oduwa made it 2-0, a counter-attack through the middle and Nathan finished in style.
"The third goal came after a scramble and Victor completed a well-deserved hat-trick with a fantastic diving header from Kane Vincent-Young's cross.
"We bounced back well from the FA Youth Cup. We had three Under-16s gaining more experience including Luke Amos, who made his debut.
"In the middle of the pitch, Filip Lesniak was excellent, as was Harry Winks, who had a busy week with international football as well, and I thought he was one positive to come out of the FA Youth Cup."
