Our Under-16s lifted the South Korea Cup on Friday after defeating Japanese side Cerezo Osaka on penalties in the final.

Tom McDermott won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award while defender Japhet Tanganga took MVP honours following a testing series of matches in the Far East.

The final, which took place in the early hours of Friday morning (UK time), ended goalless after extra time – the lads going on to secure the silverware after a 3-2 win in the shootout.

Penalties were also needed to decide the semi-final against a Gyeongsangbuk Select Team from South Korea, our youngsters battling out a goalless draw before registering a 4-2 shootout win.

Earlier, we began the group campaign with a 0-0 draw against a Gyeongbuk Select Team from South Korea before beating an NSW Select Team from Australia 3-0.

Our third group match, against Spanish side Athletic Bilbao, also ended without score, while we suffered a 4-1 reverse against a South Korea Under-15 League Select Team in match number four.

Our place in the knockout stage was secured following a 0-0 draw with Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos, before we beat the South Korea Under-15 National Team 3-2 in the quarter-finals.
