Ugo Ehiogu knows a thing or two about defending – and he liked what he saw from young debutant Christian Maghoma up against Gary Hooper for our Under-21s at Norwich City on Tuesday.
Pitched in for his debut at U21 level, the First Year scholar, still just 16, found himself up against the hugely-experienced Hooper, who played Champions League football at Celtic.
Christian was his own biggest critic after a 3-1 loss where our young team gave as good as they got in front of a league record 10,405 attendance at Carrow Road.
“Christian would have learned a lot,” said the former Villa, Middlesbrough and England international centre-half, now our U21 coach.
“He’s not had that many minutes on the pitch against that type of player who will push, pull and hold him. I’ve spoken to him about understanding that type of player.
“We had four or five players away on international duty so we had to plug a few gaps but it gave players the opportunity to impress and they did that.”
