Training Centre - One Month On

It has been a month since the first team squad stepped into our fantastic new training facility on Hotspur Way in Enfield.

We have released new photographs of the centre in Enfield. Please scroll to the bottom of the page for a detailed description of each one.

The facility has been widely praised for the impact it will have on the Club’s future on the pitch and the surrounding area in Enfield.

Shaun Dawson, chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority said: “Tottenham Hotspur’s new state-of-the art training centre is clearly one of the very best in the world and is a testament to the club’s ambitions.

"The community will also benefit through the Section 106 partnership established between Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Enfield Council and the Club to deliver a range of sporting and community programmes. Congratulations to Spurs on this stunning and hugely impressive premier training facility.”

Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur said: “The Club set out to create a Training Centre that would be sensitive to its environment and extremely sustainable.

“We have delivered over and above expected requirements through extensive planting and ecological enhancements, as well as created a highly efficient building which far exceeds the requirements of building regulations.”

John McDermott, Academy Manager, is hugely impressed with the Training Centre and the opportunities it will provide his players with.

“The new Training Centre facilities are second to none. They have enabled us to transform and enhance our Academy Development Programme as we are now able to offer things such as homework clubs, day release programmes and individual tutorial.

"The facilities in isolation will not produce better results. As a management team, staff and players we now have to make sure our work ethic, values and inspiration matches that of the Centre.”

The Training Centre has also made a huge impression on players both past and present.

Pat Jennings has been at Spurs for six decades having initially joined us in 1964. Regarded at the best in the world during his playing days, Pat continues to coach and advise our goalkeepers of the future in his role of Goalkeeping Consultant.

“It’s incredible, an unbelievable facility,” said Pat. “Anyone who comes here – players we’re hoping to sign, the Club’s younger players – can’t help but be impressed.

“How can you come here and not enjoy your working day? It’s an absolute dream. I work with the Academy lads and they love it. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

The thoughts of the current playing staff have been well-documented and summed-up here by winger Aaron Lennon, who has been in electric form this season to earn his place back in the England squad.

Aaron said: “It really is an incredible place. While with England, I’ve trained at some of the biggest Clubs’ training grounds and none of them come close to this. I’m walking around here and I can’t believe that this is our workplace.

“This training centre is not only going to improve us as a team but it will benefit players at every level at the club and everyone who works here. It’s fantastic that the club has made this happen.”

The new architecturally designed Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre has been built on 77 acres and is located on Hotspur Way, Enfield. It is the home of the Club’s First Team and Academy and is recognised as one of the best in Europe.

The state-of-the-art facility - which includes a covered artificial pitch, world-class player preparation areas, pool and hydrotherapy complex, altitude room, large-scale gymnasium and specialist sports rehabilitation suites - will support the Club’s ambitions to attract, develop and retain the highest quality talent.

The aspirational site layout has been designed to inspire a new generation of young players from the Academy all the way through to the elite First Team squad, with the highest standard of pitch maintenance and preparation in Europe.

There are 15 grass pitches across the site including 4 dedicated solely for First Team Training and 1 and ½ artificial outdoor pitches with floodlighting. The First Team Match pitch is built to exactly the same specification as the pitch at White Hart Lane.

The new Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre has been designed with environmental protection and sustainability in mind. The focus has been on enhancing and reinstating key features of the local environment including restoring historic hedgerows and field boundaries as well as significant additional planting, an organic kitchen garden and orchard.

The Club has planted over 150 new and semi-mature trees, and thousands of new plants, hedges and flowers across the site in order to establish and enhance the ecological habitat.

An attenuation pond has been installed to establish a wetland and intermittent wetland habitat with natural plant and wildlife, which is also designed to control the flow of water off site through the historic restored sluice gate.

The architecturally designed main building is highly energy efficient, with world-class facilities throughout. The ETFE roof over the artificial pitch uses a similar material to that used for the biodomes at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

A sedum ‘green’ roof has been installed to significant portions of the main building to provide an ecological roof covering and enable the capture and re-harvesting of rain water across the centre.

Over 10% of energy is produced on site through some form of renewable source such as the photovoltaic array on the main building roof and the air-source heat pumps which provides the building cooling system.

The Club, as part of its commitment to the area in which the new Training Centre now sits, is investing £2.3m into the community over the next 10 years. This has already led to the delivery, by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, of 19 new programmes across the London Borough of Enfield and surrounding areas.

The community programmes have already engaged over 2500 people across all age groups, both able-bodied and disabled and has delivered over 17,000 hours of education, mentoring, coaching and care support.
