Tottenham Hotspur supporting young people into construction jobs

Students from a number of sixth forms in the local community were invited onto the site of the Club’s new stadium development as part of an initiative to inspire young people into careers within the construction industry.

The Club is committed to supporting local people into employment and has already created over 1,000 new jobs through its new stadium scheme, kick-starting the regeneration of the area.

Over the course of three days, the students, aged 16-18, will participate in workshops delivered by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation in partnership with the Construction Youth Trust and Mace, the Main Contractor for the development of the Club’s new stadium.

Participants will get the chance to put their questions to professionals from Mace working on the stadium build including Civil and Structural Engineers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Construction Managers, providing an insight into career paths within the industry.

This will be followed by practical team-based activities related to construction and a range of employability skills workshops to prepare young people for interviews and entering the workplace.

Of the 20 students attending the programme, five will be offered the chance to complete a one-week work placement opportunity with Mace and its suppliers in line with the students’ specified area of interest.

An estimated 3,000 construction jobs are expected to have been delivered by the time Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium opens.

“Using our network of partners, we will be delivering more workshops like this as part of our continued commitment to supporting local people into work.”

“It’s been a great opportunity to work with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and engage with local young people to give them an insight into creating a major sports and entertainment landmark on their doorstep. Hopefully we’ve inspired these young people to consider a career in the construction industry.”
