Toby confident ahead of West Brom clash

Toby Alderweireld would prefer to forget our last meeting with West Bromwich Albion for all manner of reasons, but insists “now is a good moment to beat them.”

The safe-as-houses Belgian defender was carried off on a stretcher with a knee injury during our 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns back in October, something that would cost him almost two months’ worth of action.

Never one to put himself first, Toby said the result against the Baggies caused him as much misery as his injury.

But he’s in optimistic mood heading into Saturday lunchtime’s clash with Tony Pulis’ side at White Hart Lane (kick-off 12.30pm) as we look to extend a six-match winning streak in all competitions.

“Not only because of my injury, we didn’t win there either but I think it’s a good moment for us to win now,” said the 27-year-old when asked about his disappointing day at The Hawthorns earlier this season.

“West Brom are a difficult team to beat, history says that as well, so it’s going to be a tough day for us but we are feeling confident.

“We’re on a good run of results but it’s our hard work that puts us there so I think we can take confidence from that.

“Having said that, history doesn’t make you perform well on the day so we have to keep working hard, prepare well and make sure we get the right result on Saturday. It’s a new game and everybody is looking forward to it.”
