Tottenham Hotspur's Craig Dolby netted fifth and fourth in the fifth and sixth rounds at Donington Park on Sunday - the only races being staged in Britain in this year's Superleague Formula series.

The 21-year-old, who hails from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, a stone's throw from the Donington track, remains third in the championship standings but now only 21 points behind the leader, Liverpool FC's Adrián Vallés, who placed sixth in both races.

Craig said: "I had braking issues and the rear roll bar broke in Race One but I managed fifth and fourth. But the biggest bonus was finishing ahead of Adrián in both.

"I'd only previously ever done a race standing start in a much less powerful car so that in itself was an interesting feature. It's been a great weekend for me."

Glasgow Rangers were the weekend's winners, with their Australian driving ace John Martin sweeping his high-powered machine to second place in the opening 44min + 1 lap race before scoring the Scottish Premier League club - and his own - maiden Superleague race by winning the €100,000 "Weekend Winner" title in the concluding Super Final.

Incredibly, the Rangers car had to be hastily repaired after Martin collided with the AC Milan machine on the opening lap in the preceding Race Two at the 2.5-mile parkland venue. The results move Rangers up three places in the 18-club title race to 11th.

The heavy rain of Saturday, which had caused qualifying to be abandoned - and cause minor damage to a section of the track - was thankfully replaced by sunny intervals encouraging a healthy crowd to attend.

The next races are staged at Estoril in Portugal on Sunday September 6.
