Our Academy players return to Barclays Under-18 Premier League duty this weekend with a home match against Everton.
John McDermott’s side last week jetted off to Dusseldorf where they gained valuable experience of playing against top European sides at the Under-19 Champions Trophy.
Now back home, they embark on a run of four league games in 10 days – starting with Saturday morning’s match against the Toffees at the Training Centre, kick-off 11am.
Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna knows it’s set to be a gruelling period, but has backed the players to take each game in their stride.
“We’re coming off the back of our trip to Dusseldorf, which was a really good learning experience, so hopefully the boys can put some of the things they learned in Germany back into their games now in the league,” he said.
“I’m sure Everton will be a good side but as usual we’re concentrating on ourselves, primarily the individual performances, and we’ll see if we can put on a good collective performance and hopefully go on and win the game.
“It’s going to be an intense 10 days but we’re in good condition, we’re looking forward to the matches ahead, so there’s no reason why we can’t go on and do well.”
