Spurs vs Cardiff - Points the priority for Andros

Sun 02 March 2014, 09:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Andros Townsend stressed that winning the game is all that matters as we look to see off Cardiff City at the Lane today.

We left it late last time out against the Bluebirds – Paulinho’s goal in the dying seconds of the game giving us the points at the Cardiff City Stadium.

But ahead of the return fixture, Andros says it’s all about making sure we’re in front when the full-time whistle goes – no matter when and how the goals come.

“I think as long as you get the three points, that’s all that matters,” the 22-year-old winger said.

“It was nerve-wracking to wait 89 minutes to get the goal last time, but it came in the end.

“Cardiff’s a must-win game for us and in terms of the league, we’re coming off the back of a disappointing result against Norwich so we really need to get back to winning ways.”

A morale-boosting Europa League victory against FC Dnipro in midweek means we’re carrying a bit of winning momentum into this afternoon’s match.

And in the wake of that result, coupled with the recent home win against Everton, Andros believes we’re starting to see the return of our vintage N17 form – thanks in no small part to the vocal backing from the terraces.

“The crowd have been massive,” Andros continued. “They were massive on Thursday night and they were good against Everton as well.

“We need to start making White Hart Lane a fortress again and hopefully with a win today we can do that and carry on the run at home.

“I think Thursday night was a massive win for us. It lifted everyone – the players, the staff and the crowd, so hopefully we can go on to the Cardiff game in good spirits now and get the points we deserve.”
