Spurs 6 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1

THE new West Stand was officially opened before this game as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spurs' first League opponents 74 years earlier, came to town.
Just like that memorable day in 1908, Wolves returned to the Black Country on the back of a defeat but on this occasion they were ripped apart by a rampant Spurs side inspired by Glenn Hoddle and Ricky Villa.

Hoddle converted a penalty after eight minutes to give Spurs the lead with Villa's 25-yarder flying home for 2-0. Villa headed home for 3-0 at the start of the second half, Kenny Hibbitt pulled a goal back, but Villa converted from close range for his hat-trick before Garth Crooks' bullet header and Mark Falco completed the scoring.

Team: Clemence; Hughton, Miller, Price, Villa, Perryman, Ardiles, Falco, Galvin, Hoddle, Crooks.
Attendance: 29,990.
