Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

1    SUNDAY

WATFORD v SPURS, Premier League, at Vicarage Road, 1.30pm

2005    Pedro Mendes, Reto Ziegler and Dean Marney all score their first goals for Spurs in a 5-2 home win over Everton.

2015    We beat Chelsea 5-3 at the Lane with Harry Kane scoring twice.

2    MONDAY

2001    We beat Newcastle United 4-2 at home. The game sees Neil Sullivan (pictured, above) and two Newcastle players sent off and three penalties awarded!

2010    We advance in the FA Cup with a 4-0 home third round victory over Peterborough United. Niko Kranjcar bags a brace.

3    TUESDAY

1885    We play at Hadley in a friendly. If you were there can you let us know the result!?

2000    We open the new Millennium with a 1-0 home win over Liverpool. Chris Armstrong scores the winner.

4    WEDNESDAY

SPURS v CHELSEA, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 8pm

1933    Three Spurs players – Jimmy Brain, Willie Evans and David Levene – all appear in a special game at White City to test the idea of floodlit matches.

2005    A stunning Pedro Mendes lob from halfway clearly crosses the goal-line at a blustery Old Trafford but the ‘goal’ is not given. We have to settle for a 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

5    THURSDAY

1955    We win 2-0 at Gateshead in the third round of the FA Cup. Johnny Brooks scores both.

1972    We draw 2-2 at home to Chelsea in our League Cup semi-final return but go out on a 5-4 aggregate. Martin Chivers scores in both games.

6    FRIDAY

1883    We lose 8-1 at local side Latymer in a friendly.

1943    Future Spurs player and manager Terry Venables born in Dagenham. Happy birthday, Tel!

7    SATURDAY

1939    We beat Watford 7-1 in the FA Cup at the Lane. We wear shirt numbers for the first time.

1984    Graham Roberts takes over in goal from an injured Ray Clemence at Fulham. The game ends goalless.

8    SUNDAY

SPURS v ASTON VILLA, Emirates FA Cup, third round, at White Hart Lane, 4pm

1901    An amazing home friendly with Berlin FC ends in a 9-6 win for Spurs!

1975    Brian Clough’s (pictured, below) first game in charge of Nottingham Forest sees them knock us out of the FA Cup at White Hart Lane.

9    MONDAY

1905    Vivian Woodward scores five times as we beat West Ham 10-0 in the semi-final of the Southern Charity Cup at the Lane.

1992    Legendary club historian and programme editor Leslie Yates dies in Enfield.

10    TUESDAY

1914    We draw 5-5 with Leicester Fosse in the first round of the FA Cup. Bert Bliss scores twice.

1987    We beat Third Division Scunthorpe United 3-2 in the FA Cup at the Lane.

11    WEDNESDAY

1936    A 4-4 FA Cup third round draw with Southend United at the Lane. Johnny Morrison and Fred Sargent share our goals.

1969    David Jenkins scores his first Spurs goal in a 1-1 draw at Stoke.

12    THURSDAY

1946    George Skinner scores on his Spurs debut but we lose 3-1 at Luton Town.

1953    After a 1-1 FA Cup third round draw at Tranmere, we win the return 9-1. We go on to reach the semis.

13    FRIDAY

1923    We scrape a 0-0 FA Cup home draw with non-league Worksop Town. They then agree to stage the replay at the Lane – and we hammer them 9-0! Alex Lindsay scores four with Tich Handley grabbing a hat-trick.

1996    Chris Armstrong hits the winner at home to Manchester City. City go down at the end of the season.

14    SATURDAY

SPURS v WEST BROMWICH ALBION, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 12.30pm

1956    England international Eddie Baily leaves us to join Port Vale.

2015    A 4-2 FA Cup replay victory over Burnley at the Lane with Danny Rose among our scorers.

15    SUNDAY

Eric Dier’s 23rd birthday.

1914    Centre-forward George Gemmell makes his debut in the FA Cup return with Leicester. We win 2-0 but that proves to be his only senior appearance for us.

2008    Captain Robbie Keane (pictured, below) hits the sole goal in the FA Cup at Reading.

16    MONDAY

1914    Tom Clay signs for Spurs from hometown club Leicester Fosse.

1946    Forest play Watford at the Lane in a third FA Cup tie after two draws. The Hornets win by the only goal after extra time.

17    TUESDAY

1914    Tom Clay makes his debut along with Harry Sparrow in a 3-1 home win over Oldham. Sparrow scores twice and Ed Lightfoot also bags his first Spurs goal.

2015    We beat Sunderland 2-1 at the Lane thanks to a late one from Christian Eriksen.

18    WEDNESDAY

1930    Ted Harper hits a hat-trick as we beat Blackpool 6-1 in the Second Division at the Lane.

1964    Jimmy Greaves scores his 100th Spurs goal as we win 2-0 at Blackpool in Division One.

19    THURSDAY

1889    We lose 4-1 at Civil Engineers in the Middlesex Senior Cup.

1894    We beat London Welsh 4-2 at Clapton in the Amateur Cup.

20    FRIDAY

1991    Gary Lineker’s goal gives us a 1-0 win at Derby County.

2016    We win 2-0 at Leicester in the FA Cup. Heung-Min Son and Nacer Chadli score.

21    SATURDAY

MANCHESTER CITY v SPURS, Premier League, at Etihad Stadium, 5.30pm

1956    Bobby Smith scores his first goal for Spurs in a 1-1 home draw with Everton.

2015    Andros Townsend’s penalty is enough to give us a home victory over Sheffield United in the semi-finals of the League Cup. We finish the job with a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane.

22    SUNDAY

1920    Full-back Alf Ramsey born in Dagenham. He would join us from Southampton in May, 1949.

1958    Cliff Jones makes his Spurs debut at Arsenal. The game ends 4-4 with Bobby Smith and Tommy Harmer both scoring twice.

23    MONDAY

1971    Jimmy Neighbour (pictured, below) scores his first Spurs goal in a 3-2 FA Cup win at Carlisle.

24    TUESDAY

1931    Jimmy Dimmock and Andy Thompson play their last games for Spurs. We lose 1-0 at West Brom.

2003    Japanese international Kazu Toda joins Spurs on loan.

25    WEDNESDAY

1964    Derek Possee makes his Spurs debut at home to Aston Villa and scores in our 3-1 win.

1967    Birthday greetings to David Ginola who was born on this day in Gassin.

26    THURSDAY

1919    England international and legendary Spurs player and manager Bill Nicholson born in Scarborough.

1991    We knock Oxford United out of the FA Cup with a 4-2 home win. Paul Gascoigne scores twice.

27    FRIDAY

1996    Clive Wilson nabs his first Spurs goal in a 1-1 home draw with Wolves.

2009    Goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini makes his Spurs debut. We beat Stoke City 3-1 at the Lane.

28    SATURDAY

1963    UEFA Cup-winning goalkeeper Tony Parks born in Hackney. He would sign for us as an apprentice in April, 1979.

1984    Goalless with Norwich City in the FA Cup at the Lane.

29    TUESDAY

1969    Phil Beal scores his only goal for the club as we beat QPR 3-2 at the Lane. Alan Gilzean and David Jenkins also net.

2003    Sergei Rebrov leaves us to join Fenerbahce on loan.

30    MONDAY

1943    George Ludford on target three times as we beat Portsmouth 5-2 at the Lane in the Football League South.

2008    Jonathan Woodgate makes his Spurs debut in a 1-1 draw at Everton.

31    TUESDAY

SUNDERLAND v SPURS, Premier League, at Stadium of Light, 7.45pm

2005    Michael Dawson and Andy Reid join in a double transfer from Forest.

2008    Brazilian international defender Gilberto arrives from Hertha Berlin.
