Spurs 4-1 Blackburn (FAYC) - Kieran's verdict

Kieran McKenna praised our Academy side for their spirited performance in Monday night’s FA Youth Cup win over Blackburn Rovers.

A hat-trick from Ismail Azzaoui and a first half strike from Josh Onomah helped us secure a 4-1 victory in the third round tie, held at Dagenham & Redbridge FC.

Sam Joel responded for the visitors shortly after our opening goal but we reacted well and went on to book our place in the fourth round draw, much to the delight of Under-18s Coach Kieran.

“We were on the front foot from the start but I thought we responded really well to the setback of them scoring,” he said.

“We were playing against an aggressive, physical team that came to press us and for them to score with what from our point of view was a poor goal to concede, it would have been easy for the boys to let their heads go down.

“But actually our best spell in the game was probably after they scored their goal. At 1-1, I thought we controlled the game, we had some really good bits of movement, our one-v-ones were very good and we created some good chances.

“On top of that, we defended our penalty box very well and restricted them to long-distance shots.

“We deserved to get to 2-1 and from there I thought we were always in control of the game.”
