Spurs 1-1 West Brom - Mauricio's reaction

Sat 25 November 2017, 20:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino felt our start to the game and West Brom’s early goal cost us as it ended 1-1 in the Premier League on Saturday - with the visitors extra motivated to defend their lead at Wembley.

Salomon Rondon scored that all-important goal after four minutes and try as we like - 24 efforts at goal - we couldn’t find two goals to completely turn it around. We were camped in West Brom’s half after the break and Harry Kane finally levelled after 73 minutes but the second goal proved elusive.

“I'm disappointed - we dropped two points,” said Mauricio. “The effort was great but the way we conceded the first goal increased their motivation and belief. It was difficult to break them down.

“The first half-hour and the way we conceded the goal...it’s a goal that put us in a difficult moment to come back into the game. In the second half we played much better but it's true, it was a difficult game.”

Add over 70 per cent possession to the 24 efforts at goal and it was another frustrating afternoon following the draws against Burnley and Swansea - all games we should really have won.

“If you look at all the stats, they are for a game that you win, easily, but in the end it’s 1-1 because in football it’s not because you have more corners or possession or create more chances that means you are going to win the game.

“For us it’s like this, we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal and that’s why we dropped two points.

“It’s frustrating, that’s the situation, the feeling, but now Tuesday, Leicester and we need to keep going.”

We travel to the KP Stadium to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
