Ryan Fredericks pointed to the achievements of Andros Townsend and Harry Kane over the last 12 months and declared: ‘It makes you believe.’
Our young right-back spent the second half of the season on loan at Millwall, helping the Lions win their battle to avoid relegation from the Championship.
He’d previously spent time honing his craft in our Development Squad alongside the likes of Andros and Harry – both of whom enjoyed a breakthrough season at first team level in 2013-14.
Having himself also made a senior appearance for us last term, going on as a substitute in December’s 4-1 home win over Anji Makhachkala in the Europa League, the 21-year-old is confident he can emulate the achievements of others in his age group and go on to make his own impact at White Hart Lane.
“With Andros and Harry, you see what they’ve achieved this season and it is inspirational,” said Ryan.
“It’s a cliché, but seeing them does make you believe in yourself and that you have a chance to do it as well. I’m lucky that I’ve managed to play as well this season and it gives you confidence to go out there and play well, you believe you can do it and I’ll try to get another chance.
“I’ve played with Andros and Harry for a while now and you look at Andros – he went on to play for England. You also see the likes of Ross Barkley at Everton coming through and these are players you’ve played against through the years, so it does give you confidence.”
