Ryan Mason was delighted to be proven right when Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot to complete our win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The midfielder, making his first Premier League appearance since our victory against Chelsea on New Year’s Day, watched his close pal reach the 20-goal mark for the season in our 3-0 victory at The Hawthorns and promptly told the in-form striker: “I told you so!”
Indeed, Ryan still recalls a conversation with Harry before the season began, in which he predicted the home-grown forward would reach that very milestone by the end of the campaign.
Reflecting on his team-mate’s achievements, and the manner of our win at the weekend, the 23-year-old revealed: “It’s funny – I was sat together in an ice bath with Harry in pre-season and I said to him he’ll get 20 goals this season.
“I didn’t think he’d get it this quickly though! He’s on fire, he’s been fantastic for us.
“In general, our attitude was spot on today. We came here to do a job. After the first 20 minutes we were 2-0 up and it was very professional from everyone.”
Having marked his return from injury in last week’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at Sheffield United – a match that saw us claim a 3-2 aggregate victory and a place in the final at Wembley – Ryan believes we’ve got some good momentum behind us as we approach the North London Derby with Arsenal on Saturday.
“We were all on it out there today – we were all excited from the other night and everyone was eager to be in the team,” he added.
“We went out there and enjoyed it. We’re on a good run – it’s important at this time of year that we keep winning games.
“It’s rare to have a week without a game like the one we’ve got coming up but everyone is going to be on it in training this week and we can’t wait for Saturday to come around.”
