Rugby star Sam has Spurs on his mind!

Sam Warburton had one thought when he was granted a couple of days off by Cardiff Blues.

“It was ‘get down to White Hart Lane, ASAP'!” beamed the Wales and British Lions skipper and, most importantly, Spurs fan!

Sam played for the Blues in a 24-24 draw against Connact in the Pro 12 in Galway on Friday night and from there, it was destination North London for our Premier League match against Southampton.

He met up with fellow Welsh sporting legend and our double-winning winger Cliff Jones and Alan Mullery prior to kick-off and celebrated the perfect day as Christian Eriksen secured a 1-0 victory.

“I came down last season to watch the home game against Chelsea, that ended in a draw and I hadn’t seen the team win for a little while, so I was hoping I wasn’t going to be a negative influence!” added Sam, who captained the Lions to a famous Test Series win in Australia last summer.

“But we won 1-0 so that was fantastic. It was great to see us get the three points.”

Sam has an incredible year of rugby ahead.

It starts with the Autumn internationals against Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa in November, followed by the Six Nations in February and March and then the big one, the Rugby World Cup held in England and Wales in September/October 2015 - England and Wales are in the same pool!

“It’s a huge 12 months ahead," he added. "The World Cup is at the back of everyone’s mind and for me, as a Welshman, it’s the closest I will get to have a home World Cup and with England in our group as well, it makes it very tasty!

“The Wales-England game, for the players on both sides, will be the one of the biggest games they’ve ever played in. It will be a target for every English and Welsh player, a massive occasion.”

However, there is another fixture on his mind.

“Arsenal in early-February. Wales open up in the Six Nations on the Friday and I’m hoping I play for Wales and get here for that. That’s the plan, anyway. I’d love to be at the Lane for that one.”
