Yannick Kamanan lit up the Recreation Ground on Bonfire Night as our reserves proved too hot for Chelsea.
The young French striker let off the early fireworks in this FA Premier Reserve League encounter with two goals in the first half to lay the foundations for a third successive win.
As some of the impressive 4,033 crowd were still taking their seats Kamanan, 19, handed us the perfect start with just two minutes on the clock.
Ben Thatcher appeared to catch the Chelsea defence cold with a ball over the top and as Cudicini raced out, he calmly lobbed home from 20 yards.
It could and, knowing Simon Davies' normal quality of finishing, should have been 2-0 just a minute later. Kamanan was involved again, swapping passes with the Welsh star before squaring to him just eight yards out - Davies somehow sliced his effort wide.
Thatcher lashed John Sutton's lay-off just over after 10 minutes and Davies forced Cudicini into a low save from 18 yards shortly after.
Chelsea, somewhat shell-shocked from our start, came into the game on the 20-minute mark when Cole headed straight at Gavin Kelly and strung together a few decent moves for the next 10 minutes without really threatening.
But Kamanan had the final word just before the break. Sutton threaded through a pass to Thatcher and his cross found Kamanan with time to plant the ball home from close range.
After a slow start the second half burst to life in a minute. Slatter's speculative volley on the full from a corner flashed wide of Kelly's upright and seconds later Piercy burst into the box and smashed into the roof of the net for the third goal.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of the home side and we enjoyed a lengthy spell of possession.
However, Chelsea created the next clear-cut chance when Woolleaston released Oliveira through on Kelly but he dithered and allowed Toner to slide in as he finally pulled the trigger.
Lee Barnard, on for Sutton, was his energetic self again and forced Cudicini into the save of the match after 79 minutes, latching onto Leonhardsen's through ball and aiming low into the corner only for the Italian goalkeeper to tip the effort around the post.
Chelsea had a couple late chances as we pushed further forward. Cole forced Kelly into his only notable save of the night with a low shot from 18 yards and another break saw Oliveira's effort blocked bravely by Thatcher.
But Kamanan almost had the final word - denied a hat-trick by Cudicini as his 16-yard drive appeared destined for the top corner.
