Paul's England aim

Fri 14 May 2004, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Paul Robinson is looking to further his international career after completing his move from Leeds United this morning.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has already won four England caps and is a likely candidate to travel to Portugal for this summer's Euro 2004 tournament.

Paul was speaking after finishing his medical and was quick to state that he hopes that Leeds United make a swift return to the Premiership after their recent relegation, but feels his international prospects would have been hampered by playing in Division One.

"Leeds is a great club with an unbelieveable fan-base, the supporters are fantastic and I hope that the club gets back where it belongs sooner rather than later," said the Beverley-born player.

"I don't think it is right for me personally to be playing the first division, I need to further my international career and I think I've joined a big club with great potential."

Paul came close to joining in January and is now happy to have finally become a Spurs player following a medical check.

"It was just a little medical to sort out this morning - I had the main one in the January transfer window. Everything is done, the contract is signed and dated from Monday, so it is all go from here.

"I am happy to be a Tottenham player now. It was difficult in the winter transfer window because Leeds is a club very close to my heart and, with the situation the club was in, it wasn't right for me to leave then.

"Hopefully the manager will be in place soon and we'll all push on. I am quite happy to work with any manager, I'll prove myself to him and get myself in the first team."
