Newcastle 0-4 Spurs - Tim's verdict

Wed 12 February 2014, 23:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Tim Sherwood pinpointed our fast start as key to a fantastic victory at St James' Park on Wednesday night.

Paulinho and Emmanuel Adebayor went close before Ade struck the key opening goal in the 19th minute, in the right place at the right time after Tim Krul parried Nabil Bentaleb’s cross.

Paulinho added to his away goal tally - that’s four in the Premier League, six in all competitions - with the second goal on 53 minutes to put us in control at 2-0.

Hugo Lloris then produced two wonderful saves to keep it that way before late goals from Ade and substitute Nacer Chadli’s lovely curler from 25 yards put the icing on the cake.

“It was a great performance,” said Tim. “We’ve been critical in recent weeks about the way we’ve started games but not this time.

“We came out firing, as soon as the whistle went, we were off.

“We really set the right tone. We knew the crowd would be important here, they can be the 12th man but we got on the front foot, pressured them into giving us the ball back and when we had it, kept it and that’s very frustrating for any crowd, especially at home.

“Ade’s done brilliantly again, they all have. It’s hard to single anyone out after a win like that. They were excellent.”
