Mission accomplished

Michael Dawson completed his win double – and couldn't have written a better script.

The skipper told us last week how the lads were determined to land back-to-back home wins after defeats on the road to Dnipro in the Europa League and Norwich.

The target was achieved thanks to a memorable second half performance in the second leg against Dnipro for a 3-1 win on the night and 3-2 aggregate success and a grittier 1-0 victory against Cardiff back in the Premier League on Sunday.

Roberto Soldado scored the only goal to secure an eighth win in our last 12 matches in the Premier League.

“We know Europe is tough, we went out to Ukraine, it didn’t go our way and then put in a disappointing performance against Norwich,” said Michael. “That result was a massive blow.

“We showed our fighting spirit against Dnipro after going 1-0 down just after half-time to come back and win and now it’s two wins out of two.

“It was a huge win and for Robbie to score, you could see the joy for him. We’re all in this together and he’s a top player. The fans gave him a fantastic reception and we’re all delighted for him.

“Now we look forward to Chelsea….”
