Dele Alli claimed a goal and an assist as MK Dons kept their automatic promotion hopes alive with a 3-0 win at Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night.

The central midfielder, this week named on a three-man shortlist for the Football League’s Young Player of the Year award, delivered a low cross to the near post for team-mate Lewis Baker to tap home the Dons’ opener 10 minutes after half-time in the League One clash.

And, after Will Grigg had made it 2-0, 19-year-old Dele popped up with a fine 20-yard strike to complete the scoring 14 minutes from time.

Dele completed the full 90 minutes, as did fellow midfielder Grant Ward for Coventry City as the Sky Blues snatched a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at home to Oldham Athletic. There was no such luck for Bongani Khumalo, however, as his Colchester United side slumped to a 6-0 defeat at Chesterfield – the defender also playing the full match.

Elsewhere, forward Shaq Coulthirst helped York City secure League Two survival, completing 90 minutes as the Minstermen won 2-1 at home to Morecambe.

In the same division, defender Dominic Ball came up with the assist for Cambridge United’s first half equaliser at Cheltenham Town – whipping in a cross for Ryan Bird to head home. Sadly for Dominic and the U’s, however, the hosts went on to claim a 3-1 win – the England Under-20 international completing the full game.

In the Championship, Jordan Archer was Millwall’s substitute goalkeeper in their 2-0 home win over Wigan Athletic, while Brentford manager Mark Warburton confirmed midfielder Alex Pritchard missed the Bees’ 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday due to a minor injury.

On Monday night, Emmanuel Sonupe was an unused substitute for St Mirren as they lost 3-0 at home to Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.
