Loan watch - Shaq strikes for Shrimpers

Mon 29 September 2014, 09:17|Tottenham Hotspur

Shaq Coulthirst scored Southend United’s winning goal against Shrewsbury on another busy weekend for our loanees.

Less than two minutes were on the clock when Shaq nodded home John White’s cross in the League Two clash at Roots Hall, our on-loan forward also testing the Shrewsbury goalkeeper with two further headers as his side secured a 1-0 win.

Also collecting maximum points following a 1-0 win in League Two at the weekend was goalkeeper Jordan Archer, who kept a clean sheet for Northampton Town at Morecambe.

Jordan was called into action late in the game, tipping Alan Goodall’s header over the bar to ensure his side was victorious.

In the Championship, Alex Pritchard played 74 minutes for Brentford in their 2-0 home win against Leeds United while Grant Hall continued on the comeback trail at Birmingham City by taking his place on the bench as his side slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Fulham. Grant has been sidelined with a groin strain.

Ryan Fredericks was also an unused substitute in the Championship for Middlesbrough in their goalless draw at Charlton Athletic, as was Tom Carroll for Swansea City as their Premier League trip to Sunderland ended similarly without score. Kenny McEvoy, meanwhile, was on the bench for Peterborough United as they won 1-0 at home to Fleetwood Town in League One.

In Germany, Lewis Holtby got the assist for Hamburg’s equaliser at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Lewis was withdrawn four minutes from time, but Frankfurt snatched a last minute goal to inflict a 2-1 defeat on the hosts.

Grant Ward was a late substitute for Chicago Fire as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Houston Dynamo, going on in the 80th minute of the MLS clash, while Tomislav Gomelt will be hoping to get a chance for Bari in Italy’s Serie B tonight (Monday) when they travel to Virtus Lanciano.
