Lewis Holtby’s debut for Fulham and Tomislav Gomelt’s return to action for Belgian side Royal Antwerp were among the talking points on another busy weekend for our loanees.
Lewis played 90 minutes for the Cottagers after linking up with our Premier League rivals on loan for the rest of the season, his new club going down 3-0 against Southampton.
Our other top flight loanee, Jake Livermore, was ineligible to play against us for Hull City on Saturday, per the terms of his loan deal.
There were mixed fortunes for the lads plying their trade on the continent – Tomislav returned to action for Belgian second division side Royal Antwerp in their 1-0 reverse at Lommel United in what was the forward’s first appearance since September.
The Croatian played the opening 56 minutes before being withdrawn.
Yago Falque also started and was substituted in the second half for Rayo Vallecano in their goalless draw with Levante in Spain’s La Liga, while Cristian Ceballos stepped off the bench to play the final 27 minutes for Portuguese side FC Arouca against Estoril – the midfielder helping his side recover from a 1-0 half-time deficit to draw the game 1-1.
Back in England a handful of our lads saw action in the Championship, with centre-half Bongani Khumalo helping Doncaster Rovers keep another clean sheet in their stalemate with Middlesbrough.
Queens Park Rangers also picked up a point after their 3-3 draw with Burnley – Benoit Assou-Ekotto played the full game at left-back while midfielder Tom Carroll maintained a watching brief from the substitutes’ bench.
Ryan Fredericks played 90 minutes for Millwall in their 3-0 defeat to Reading, while Jon Obika was an unused substitute for Brighton & Hove Albion as the Seagulls went down 2-0 at Watford.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux and striker Shaq Coulthirst are now back at the club after their respective loan spells at Hyde FC and Leyton Orient expired.
