Liverpool 3-2 Spurs - Mauricio's verdict

Tue 10 February 2015, 23:02|Tottenham Hotspur

Naturally disappointed by the 3-2 loss against Liverpool, Mauricio Pochettino said he was proud of the effort the team put in as we came from behind twice only to lose out 3-2 at Anfield in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Liverpool took the lead on two occasions only for Harry Kane – his 23rd of the campaign in all competitions – and Mousa Dembele, his first, to restore parity.

An open game could have gone either way but Liverpool found a winner in the 83rd minute as Mario Balotelli struck from close range.

The result ended a run of three-successive wins in the Premier League and represented only our second reverse in 11 in league action.

“It was a great game and a good performance but it’s true it wasn’t the same as the last game against Arsenal,” reflected Mauricio.

“In the first half we gave away a lot of balls and gave the opportunity to Liverpool to counter-attack.

“At the end, in the last 10 minutes, I thought the game was finished and we deserved to take a minimum of one point from Anfield, but that’s football and we have to accept it. It’s unlucky for us.

“It’s a shame but we have to keep working. We have a young squad, a young team and it’s never easy to play again three days after such a big game at White Hart Lane, never easy to play another tough game like Liverpool.

“I’m a little sad because the effort was great from our players. I’m proud of them for their effort, just disappointed about the result.”
