John McDermott praised the resilience of our Under-18s after they took a well-earned point from Saturday’s trip to Leicester.
Shayon Harrison kept his cool to slide home a 75th minute equaliser, cancelling out Danny Rowe’s strike earlier in the second period at the Foxes’ Belvoir Drive training ground.
“It was a really tough game – possibly one of the toughest we’ve had,” said John, our Academy Manager, after what was our fourth consecutive Barclays Under-18 Premier League draw.
“In the second half we were tough and, while I was very disappointed with the goal that we conceded, we created lots of chances afterwards.
“I loved our mentality and I liked the fact that in quite a tough game we looked after ourselves very well – especially in the second half where we had a good response after conceding. It’s just a shame that we didn’t put one of our chances away at the end.”
Goalkeeper Harry Voss made a stunning left-handed save to deny Rowe a second goal in the closing moments of the game and ensure we left with a point – earning praise from John as a result.
“I thought Leicester’s goalkeeper was far busier throughout the game but sometimes, when you just get the odd save to make, it can be hard to concentrate,” he added. “Their keeper was in the game regularly whereas Harry really had that one big moment and stepped up to make the save, which was good.”
