In the first match of a busy pre-season period, the Spurs Legends XI lost out to a late goal against a young Hertford Town side on Sunday.

Two former White Hart Lane favourites made their Legends debuts, in the form of Stuart Nethercott (pictured) and David Kerslake.

Lining up against the Lilywhites was a particular player of note - a certain Pablo Ardiles, Hertford's assistant manager and the son of Spurs legend Ossie.

At a sun-drenched Hertingfordbury Park, the match started slowly with Nethercott marshalling the defensive line solidly alongside John Lacy.

Mid-way through the first half, the hosts hit the bar, before Spurs did likewise at the other end shortly afterwards. A corner from David Howells caused confusion in the Hertford box, with Steve Smart rising highest to head against the woodwork.

Hertford took the lead from close range on 37 minutes, but Spurs drew level eight minutes after half-time as Trevor Wilkinson bundled the ball home.

The Hertford side, which included a number of young first team players, gained the upper hand in the closing stages with the Spurs boys tiring, and just two minutes from time sealed a 2-1 victory.
