Ledley King has highlighted an important win for England ahead of his return to international action for the first time in three years.

The defender scored the opener in the 3-1 friendly victory over Mexico to mark winning his first cap since June 2007.

But Ledley is quick to point out that overcoming Monday night's opponents was no mean feat as Fabio Capello's men continued their preparations for this summer's World Cup Finals.

However, he did express his delight at finally getting the chance to pull on the Three Lions shirt again at such a key moment in time.

Ledley said: "It's been a long time coming. I didn't know whether I would play again for England and it makes it all worthwhile.

"I wouldn't say it was one of my best games but it was tough because Mexico are a good side.

"Scoring was a nice touch but the main thing was the team getting a result. We played against a good side and found it difficult at times, but we got the result."

Ledley completed 90 minutes at Wembley, further displaying the fitness levels needed to be able to cope with the intensity of a World Cup campaign should he make the final 23-man squad for South Africa.

He added: "With the knee I'm confident. This season I've had problems with the muscle but I've put that behind me now and got games under my belt.

"I played three games in the last week of the season so it proves I can do it and can play games in quick succession."
