Karen Hills has kicked-off Tottenham Hotspur Ladies' preparations for next season's FA Women's Premier League campaign with the key signing of Toni-Anne Wayne.
The highly-rated goalkeeper and former England youth international has joined from Brighton.
“It’s probably the signing for the season for us,” said Karen, who knows Toni-Anne well from their playing days together at Charlton, where they were FA Cup runners-up.
“Toni is a fantastic signing and she will give us a real platform defensively for next season.”
Toni added: “I know Karen well and know what she demands from her players. I have the same mentality.
“I spoke to her and the move fitted perfectly for me. I’ve played many seasons against Spurs so I know what the team is all about, always difficult to beat, and there was definitely a shift in terms of quality on the ball last season. Spurs beat us (Brighton) 3-0 and deservedly so, and I’m confident the team can do well this season.”
The ladies began pre-season impressively with a 10-2 friendly victory against Aldershot on Sunday. Wendy Martin led the way with four goals.
The team has friendlies scheduled against West Brom this Sunday (July 20) followed by a touring American team (July 27), an Arsenal XI (August 3), Millwall (August 10) and MK Dons (August 17).
