HCGFL – U10 DIVISION 1

A blustery day welcomed Spurs Ladies to Hitchin Town Belles’ Ickleford ground, but they managed to beat the weather and the Belles in their HCGFL match 2-0, despite missing a few players.

It took a long range rocket shot from Megan Jones (pictured right) to send the ball back into the net when a corner was cleared and then goal-poacher Ronell Humes hit the second when she finished good work by Ellis Lunn and Molly Bassett.

The ball was held up by the wind in the second half, as both teams struggled to get it down to play their natural game, but the re-arranged Spurs side took the points thanks to Rebecca Lane’s efforts between the posts.

The Under 11 Whites were involved in a tight 0-0 draw with Denham United Ladies in the HCGFL.

On an extremely small pitch, both sides found it hard to find space to play free flowing football. Both sides went close on a couple of occasions, but it was the defences of both sides that came out with credit as they both held out strongly through the game.

HCGFL – U14 DIVISION 1

Stevenage Borough Vixens were unfortunate to meet Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Under-14s on a day when they were goal hungry, winning 10-1.

Spurs hit top form as Stevenage defended bravely, but could not keep out a rampant Tottenham team, who broke double figures for the fourth time this season.

Goals came from Hannah Lyons, Whitney Tango, Ayse Mustafa, two each from Nikki Hunnable, Charlotte Dean and Siobhan Jones, with Sarah Skipper scoring her first for the club.

The Spurs Ladies U16s proved yet again that have staying power and true ‘bounce-back-ability’ when for the third game in a row they came back from a goal down to secure a point when they drew 1-1 with Southend United Ladies.

Spurs were unlucky not to take the lead when Victoria Matthews struck the crossbar, but with ten minutes to go before the break, Southend opened the scoring when Spurs failed to clear their lines and the ball was struck home from the edge of the Spurs box.

In the second half, Spurs spent long periods camped in the Southend half, but Southend produced several good counter attack moves which Spurs defended well.

With 13 minutes to go, an in-swinging corner from Becky Shephard evaded the scrambling efforts of the Southend keeper to level the score and gain a point.

GLRWFL – DIVISION 2 NORTH

A real game of two halves saw Spurs Ladies Reserves suffer with defensive mistakes after causing Leyton all sorts of problems in the first 45 minutes of this 1-5 defeat.

With a fine tempo to their game, the Reserves took the game to Leyton, causing them problems down the flanks, but a failure to clear a corner saw the home side take the lead against the run of play. Ebony Heath started a move that lead to Hayley Graham feeding Sarah Mair to strike a fierce 30 yard shot to equalise.

However, into the second half Spurs lost their concentration at the back and let Leyton grab four goals before the end to seal a convincing win, which should have seen THLFC grab something from the match.

LONDON & SOUTH-EAST WOMEN’S REGIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION

A good start by Spurs Ladies was blunted by a home goal by Crowborough, although the side battled back to earn a 4-1 win.

For ten minutes, Spurs looked the better side, but a half-cleared corner was rifled back to give Crowborough the lead. However, the rest of the first half was Tottenham’s and Jessie Richards restored parity when she knocked home Rosi Webb’s cross which the keeper fumbled.

As the game neared half-time, Spurs went on the attack and Kat Clifton finished past the keeper to give Tottenham the lead after good work by Webb, Clarke and Singh on the wing. Not content with a one goal lead, the team went into the interval 3-1 ahead when Clifton’s run and pass allowed Webb to extend the advantage.

The second half got bogged down on a muddy pitch as the conditions deteriorated, but there was still the opportunity to make it 4-1, with Clifton once more the provider for Richards to seal another confident win for the Ladies.

Watford Ladies U10 0
HCGFL – U10 CUP – QUARTER FINAL

Two goals from Chloe Tunnicliffe put the Under-10s through to the HCGFL U10 Cup semi-final.

The ball was worked well through the midfield and when Ronell Humes’ shot was beaten out by the Watford keeper, the Spurs captain Tunnicliffe was on hand to score from outside the penalty area with just five minutes gone.

A few minutes later an Ellis Lunn cross found Tunnicliffe at the far post to complete her brace with a neat finish.

Watford pushed forward to try and get back into the game in the second half, but the wind made playing conditions difficult and only a full-length dive by Renee Lamy denied the Hornets a goal.

A free weekend saw the Spurs Ladies Under-12 Blues take on Braintree Town U12 in a friendly and run out comfortable winners.

It was a good exercise for the girls, with players tried in new areas of the team and the goals flowed as they played some incisive passing football. Goals for Amy Runciman (7), Femi Elisery (2), Georgia Miller (2), Phoebe Guiver, Lou Fox and Chloe Smith saw the team keep their good form going with the last few league games ahead.

Continuing their good run of results, the Spurs Ladies Under-13s maintained the top spot in their league with an impressive showing against Hitchin Town Belles.

The trip to Hitchin proved problematical, but once underway, the girls made light work of getting the ball into the net. After 45 seconds, Bobbi Cubberley scored the first of her hat-trick, as she kept her good scoring form going. Lydia Maher showed good strength to break through on goal and smash two goals, while Charlotte McLucas also found a fine finish to beat the Hitchin keeper, who did well to keep the score down.

Amy Woff’s rising shot added to the total and two late poacher’s goals from Nina Pontes gave a score-line that reflected the dominance the Spurs girls imposed on their hosts.

HCGFL – U14 DIVISION 1

A top of the table clash was edged in the favour of Luton Town U14s, but a late chance almost salvaged a point for Tottenham Hotspur Ladies.

Two goals within the first seventeen minutes left Spurs chasing the game, but they showed good character in pushing the Luton side back with Laura Smith being denied by an offside decision and Siobhan Jones by two good saves by the Town keeper.

On the hour, Renata Inniss took a through pass and rounded the keeper to slip the ball past her to peg a goal back and almost equalised a minute later. Pressure built, with a succession of corners, but as Jones ran through with minutes left, the flag was raised to stop her progress, when it seemed she had broken from an onside position.

Newham Womens 2
GLRWFL – DIVISION 2 NORTH

A late, late goal from Hayley Graham saved a point for the Spurs Ladies Reserves in their league meeting with Newham Women.

The wind affected the ability to keep the ball down and Newham took the lead with their second wind-assisted effort of the match in the 33rd minute. With keeper Laura May having to leave the field at the interval, it was a rearranged Tottenham team that took the field for the second half.

However, the team pulled together and in the 48th minute, a Kirsty Allen cross was nodded home by debutante Laura Wilding. Newham took the lead again in the 89th minute, when stand-in keeper Fiona Butterfield cleared, only to see the ball bounce off a Newham forward and enter the net. It was not all lost, as the ladies went forward from the kick off and Hayley Graham beat one player before crashing an equaliser right at the death to salvage a point for Spurs.

LONDON & SOUTH-EAST WOMEN’S REGIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION

The First team’s best performance of the season saw them beat Woking 5-1 at Fred Knights.

Set pieces paid dividends for Tottenham, who took their foot off the gas towards the end and let Woking in for a late consolation goal. Spurs were 3-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Clare Singh, Hannah Charman and Jessie Richards, with the first two resulting from corners and the third coming from a mistake from the pressured Woking defence.

After the break, Tottenham’s good play continued and an astute through ball that found Richards was coolly taken around the keeper for the fourth Spurs goal. One final goal from a corner was converted by forward Rosi Webb to keep the team in with striking distance of the top of the table.
