That first win of the campaign still eludes Spurs Ladies after another close game that went against them in the FA Women's Premier League on Sunday.

The ladies lost 3-1 at high-flying Reading in the Southern Division but the game was in the balance until a defensive mistake allowed the Royals in for the opening goal just before half-time.

Two penalties sealed Spurs fate, with Wendy Martin replying.

"At times, we played really well, but mistakes are our downfall at the moment," said manager Karen Hills. "The girls will continue to work hard in training and hopefully it won't be long before we get that first win."

The next chance to do so is against West Ham in the FA Women's Premier League at Harlow Town on Sunday. Kick-off is 2pm. It's just £3 for adults, £1 for U16s and free for U5s.

READING 3-1 SPURS LADIES

Spurs Ladies started slowly at Reading but had settled into the game when they suffered a huge blow just before half-time.

A rare mistake from Robyn Downie let in the home side and they made no mistake to lead 1-0 at half-time.

Karen made a few changes at the break which saw Dee Smith tale her place on the right of midfield.

She was involved straight away with a run down the right and stunning strike that rattled the crossbar.

But two penalty awards knocked the stuffing out of Spurs, both converted by Lois Roche for 3-0. Jo Ayre made three excellent saves to keep the scoreline down before Wendy Martin's consolation and a final scoreline of 3-1.

Karen reported: "I was pleased with the shape of the team at times and when we played simply we did really well.

"However, I felt there were too many girls under-performed on the day. When you play against one of the top three teams every player needs to be on their game and that just wasn’t the case."
