JERMAIN DEFOE was back to doing what he does best

JERMAIN DEFOE was back to doing what he does best at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday - scoring goals.




Xtra nipped out to the training pitches to take a few pictures - click the arrows above - and no sooner had we arrived, JD banged a thunderous 20-yarder into the top corner.




Clive Allen said the striker has been 'like a coiled spring' in training leading up to that famous five-goal show in the wonderful 9-1 win against Wigan on Sunday.




JD told Xtra later that he'd had a bit of banter with Michael Dawson, who was on the opposite side in training. "He kept saying 'will you keep still' and 'slow down, JD'," beamed Jermain.




Michael confirmed: "I always have a bit of banter with Jermain - when you play against him in training you can only think 'wow'."

Try as he might, professional pride ensured the popular defender just couldn't let it go after conceding that one goal in that 9-1 win.




Having said that, a mate didn't help, as Michael explained.




"It was a fantastic day - but it's all about clean sheets for us at the back," he said after returning to the starting XI on Sunday. "We were devastated to concede that one.




"In fact, a mate of mine phoned on Sunday and said '9-1, what was the one all about?!' and although that made me smile, it still hurts us to let any goals in."




Apart from that goal, Michael said he loved every minute of Sunday's win. "The second half was probably the most enjoyable half of football I've ever played in," he smiled.




DAVID GINOLA was a surprise and welcome visitor to Spurs Lodge on Tuesday.




The perfect gentleman as ever, 'Le Magnifique' returned to his former 'home' to help out with some filming for Sport Relief in the dome at the training ground.




And the double PFA/Football Writers' Player of the Year winner of 1999 clearly hasn't lost his touch.




While the likes of Peter Crouch, Wilson Palacios, Giovani and Jimmy Walker got on with their filming, David pinged a few free-kicks into the top corner from 25 yards - wearing brogues, trousers and a shirt.
