Jan happy to hit 100-game milestone

Mon 08 December 2014, 12:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen's 100th appearance in a Spurs shirt came as little consolation to the defender after our goalless draw against Palace on Saturday.

The Belgian international said the lads were all determined to win after the midweek loss at Chelsea but couldn’t find a way past an organised Palace defence.

At the other end, Jan, central partner Federico Fazio and the defence were put under pressure but secured a clean sheet with Hugo Lloris producing two fantastic saves to keep Palace at bay.

“We tried everything but couldn’t create too many chances,” said Jan.

“We did our best to break them down but they were tough and defended well and dangerous up front, so it was very difficult.

“We gave a couple of chances away and too many set-pieces, nine corners against us was too much, but we kept a clean sheet and that’s good, we didn’t lose and that’s important.

“We all know Hugo is an exceptional goalkeeper and he made some great saves.”

As for hitting three-figures, Jan, who joined us from Ajax in the summer of 2012, added: “The supporters, manager and my team-mates have always supported me and I’m happy to play my 100th game. I hope I can go to 200 now.”
