Jan Vertonghen paid tribute to Nacer Chadli after his fifth goal in nine Premier League games kick-started Sunday’s turnaround at Aston Villa.
Trailing 1-0 to the 10-man hosts, we equalised six minutes from time when Nacer slid home Erik Lamela’s corner at the back post.
Harry Kane’s 89th-minute free kick saw us run out 2-1 winners, with defender Jan delighted to see his Belgian compatriot playing such a key role.
“I’m so happy for Nacer and he deserves it,” said the centre-half, who played 90 minutes alongside Younes Kaboul at Villa Park. “He works hard every day so I’m very pleased to see him doing well.”
On the match itself, Jan felt the points went to the right team based on the amount of possession we had.
“We started very well and had a couple of good chances but couldn’t hit the back of the net,” he added.
“Aston Villa then scored, which was a bad goal for us to concede, but at the end of the day I think we deserved the points.
“We had more possession overall and while we had a few problems in the first half I think at the end we defended well.”
