It was actions, not words, that counted for matchwinner Dele Alli and his team-mates after halting Chelsea’s run with a convincing 2-0 win on Wednesday night.
It was pointed out to the in-form midfielder that after last season’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge - a result that ended lingering hopes of the title - and then November’s narrow loss, coupled with Chelsea trying to make Premier League history with 14 straight wins, and our form going into the fixture, that there was plenty on this particular London derby.
So what was said? “We didn’t need to say anything beforehand,” suggested Dele, who went on to score almost identical goals from Christian Eriksen’s crosses either side of the break to secure our victory on this night to remember at the Lane.

“The game was massive for so many reasons - after last season, after earlier this season as well, we wanted to stop their run to be honest and wanted to do it for the fans, everyone had the bit between their teeth, you could see that,” added Dele, who took his recent tally to seven goals in four games.
“The fans were singing from the start and we were so happy to get the win.
“It was one of those nights at White Hart Lane, unforgettable, the fans were amazing and we were happy to get the win for them.”

Dele’s double made it 10 goals for the season in the Premier League and 11 in all competitions so far this term.
“They were two great crosses in from Chris, I peeled away for both of them and it’s hard to miss when the crosses are that perfect,” he added, agreeing about the controlled nature of the performance.

“It was a really professional performance. It was important we scored the second goal, it’s never comfortable at 1-0 but after we scored the second goal it was a comfortable win, and a great win.
“I’m happy to score and there is no better feeling than winning so when you win and score it’s a great feeling.”
